Klokhuis Daelwijck, Utrecht

The project Klokhuis Daelwijck  adds Bell ringing as a meaningful act to the municipal cemetery Daelwijck. A familiar ritual in a new form, a sensitive experience that is not related to any specific religion and of all times.

The relatives can make a physical contribution to the funeral ceremony.

An important ritual contribution which also has a soothing effect.

Using Klokhuis Daelwijck during a funeral ceremony is actually a detour, a meaningful, meditative detour.

Those who do the Bell ringing will deviate from the route that is common on the way to the place where the deceased will be buried. They turn off and follow one of the white trails on the way to the center of Klokhuis Daelwijck. They ring the bell at the time the procession stops for a moment.
